Understanding Paraphimosis
Paraphimosis is a condition where the retracted foreskin of an uncircumcised penis cannot be returned to its normal position, causing the glans (head of the penis) to become trapped. This results in restricted blood flow and can lead to pain, swelling, and, if untreated, serious complications such as tissue damage or gangrene.
Symptoms of Paraphimosis
- Swelling: Swelling of the glans and foreskin.
- Pain: Severe pain and discomfort in the penis.
- Discoloration: The glans may appear red or blue due to restricted blood flow.
- Inability to Retract Foreskin: The foreskin cannot be moved back over the glans.
- Difficulty Urinating: Urinary obstruction due to the swollen foreskin.
